I
don't have huge chunks of time to pray with two children and a job, but it
has been a huge blessing to me that each year at Spring Harvest I can
ensconce myself into the prayer room at Skegness with a pad, a pen, a warm
jumper and quiet.
When
I went to the prayer room in the spring of 2002, I knew what I wanted
answers for. It wasn't what I got! It did not go well at first. I had my
agenda and God didn't seem to be listening?
After
a couple of days, a lot of talking, confessing, repenting, finally my heart
was at peace. It was at the end of the week that this thought suddenly
dropped in of a prayer group-across the town. I could see that it would be a
challenge.
I
was very excited about it. And I came back and spoke to my Minister who put
it to the Elders and in the November of 2002 Pray Hemel
started at St George's Church.
It
was well attended, and it was obvious to me that it had to move around the
town. With our varying gifts and talents, it seemed right that it should be
shared. In February 2003, it was held at Adeyfield URC. Pray Hemel
was on the move! I was a little nervous about it moving, but it has moved
around the town now for three years and we have been so blessed by others
leading and hosting it. The communication has improved because Pray
Hemel has become a vehicle for passing on information.
I
believe that the church in Hemel is increasingly working together. Together
- unified we are a powerful team.
Pray
Hemel is
very close to my heart; it is not mine, it never has been, it is God's. It
was His idea; it is His vehicle and as His people it is our privilege to
pray together for this town.
Three
years later a new campaign to highlight Pray Hemel has begun.
I would like to encourage every Christian to come along, to tell their
Christian friends about it, whether that is by email, through church
newsletters or just reminding people when it is.
In
my heart I feel the same excitement about Pray Hemel now that
I did that first day in the Prayer Room: God wants to work with us, and
together we can make a difference.
