Spring Harvest  - 25th to 30th March 2008
This year a large proportion of our young people and leaders went to Skegness for Spring Harvest, and as they all came back completely shattered, I think they must have enjoyed it!! Click here for a full report.

'AWAKENING 2008' -  3 Day Youth Event - 13th to 15th February 2008
This was three fantastic afternoons of dance, drama, music, guitar workshops, sports, games and other activities and three 'loud' evenings of live bands . It was open to all young people in secondary school. Many churches across the town were involved in this event, and many of our Christian young people invited their non Christian friends to an exciting Christian event that gave many young people the chance to hear about Jesus - which can only be a good thing! For a full round up of what happened during the events, visit www.awakeninghemel.co.uk

'WASTEWATCHERS' Holiday Bible Club - Monday 23rd to Friday 27th July 2007
What a wonderful week we had – 87 children came along for 5 mornings of fun, games, crafts, drama and stories. Almost 40 helpers gave their time to help – and they seemed to have as much fun as the children, particularly the teenage helpers who were fantastic this year! The drama was the highlight of the morning and was well co-ordinated by Gill Griffin; set in a park the week saw a transformation from a messy place, which no one could enjoy to a beautiful welcoming place where everyone was welcome. The stories were all from the gospel of John this year and were all about transformation too – how Jesus can change things. We saw how Jesus changed nothing into something when he created the world, how he turned water into wine, darkness into light, how he overcame death into life and how the sadness at his death was changed into joy when he rose again. A memorable moment was when one little boy left at the end of the morning excitedly telling his parent that Jesus really is alive! The games, the crafts, the leaders challenges and the singing filled the mornings too and by the end of the week everyone was tired but happy. The annual Sausage Sizzle was well attended again and the bouncy castles and face painting went down well with the children – well done to Dennis Chang, Steve Groome and Jonathan Lee who BBQ’d all the food beautifully. Then to finish the week on a high we had a Waste Watchers Celebration on the Sunday where we took the church through a whirlwind tour of our week – Joseph Beadle, (aged 6 yrs) played the piano as the children sang Our God is a Great Big God which was superb! All in all it was a brilliant week and my thanks go to all the helpers who were a fantastic team and who worked so hard, and my prayer is for the children who came along that the things they learnt and experienced this week would stay with them for a lifetime.

Church Day Out - Wendover Woods  - 9th June 2007
The sun shone for this day out and we enjoyed a relaxing picnic, a lovely walk and time to relax. The children played well together on the playground and fields, some avid bird watchers went searching for the local Firecrest bird but I think they must of heard us coming and flown away! There is a lovely teashop selling refreshments and ice creams and most people visited that. It was a lovely relaxing afternoon - lovely surroundings and great company.

Spring Bank Holiday Monday  - 28th May 2007
A Wet Walk in Ashridge! - The really brave amongst us turned out at Ashridge on Bank Holiday Monday for a walk in the woods. Amidst a day of pouring rain and cold winds we probably picked the driest hour, and we battled on dressed in wellies, coats, hats and even gloves. If we hadn't pre-arranged this walk I guess most of us would have stayed indoors due to the bad weather but it was lovely to meet up with friends and enjoy the fresh air - even if it was a little chilly! Cups of tea, hot chocolate and home made cake from the tea shop were enjoyed by all before we went home to get dry!

May Day Bank Holiday Camping Weekend  - 4th to 7th May 2007
The May Day Camp was held at Hurley and was, yet again, a wonderful time to enjoy the lovely surroundings and the good company of friends and families. We enjoyed a weekend of mostly dry weather, a lovely walk into Marlow with a visit to the French Market for croissants, cheese and crepes!, an all-age game of rounders, an outdoor worship service on the Sunday as well as lots of time for relaxing, chatting and just being together. On the Sunday afternoon a few other people came over to the camp to join us for tea, which was lovely. Even the torrential rain as we packed away on the Monday didn't dampen our spirits - I think that this was a superb weekend! This camp is an annual event and so if anyone would like to join us next year keep the first bank holiday in May free and watch this space for further details.

Comic Relief - Saturday 17th March 2007
Well done to the young people who took part in the Comic Relief Challenge in March. 20 teenagers took up the challenge to stay awake all night on Red Nose Day. In order to avoid sleep we played games, watched films, baked cakes for the coffee morning and we learnt to do the Cha Cha thanks to a Strictly Come Dancing lesson from Duncan! We watched the sun rise, then tucked into a full English breakfast to refuel our energy, which left us ready to work hard at the Bring and Buy Sale, the Coffee Morning and the Car Wash, which we held in the church on the Saturday morning. Everyone who came left with a shiny clean car (!!), some bargains from the sale, a tummy full of delicious cakes and empty pockets after donating lots of money to this worthwhile cause. In total we raised £1108,00, which was fantastic! This money will certainly make a difference in people's lives, as Comic Relief distribute it to those in need. So, well done to all the young people who took part and thank you to everyone who supported this event and gave generously.
